There is a lady in Ca that sells a good package for $675 ( includes the Oak )
And as always there will be scalpers. If you show up without a hotel , however

I suspect that Arlington, Saratoga, Belmont, etc. are unlikely candidates for
BC since there's a great chance of really nasty weather in November in those
Northern climes. You may say "why not hold BC earlier?", but BC is designed
to help decide champion status, thus *must* be held toward the close of the
season.
Also, some posts have said, in effect - why is BC *never* run at Upsand
Downs? Wait a minute! BC isn't so long established that they have had a
chance to visit every site they might. You don't suggest that BC go to Wyo.
Downs, Evangaline, Ruidoso, etc., do you?
Lastly, despite Johnny Nerud's great PR work in getting BC into so many minds
as the be-all and end-all of TB racing, IMHO some people give it way too much
weight. I have no problem with HB or any other horse skipping that day,
especially if it is held at a track the horse has shown a previous dislike
for, or just doesn't fit with the schedule the owner/trainer have in mind, or
the horse has already proven himself, or even if the horse wasn't nominated,
given the very high supplement fees.
Just my two cents.

There has been some talk down here about Del Mar attempting to get a
Breeder's Cup date, but that would involve switching dates with SA/HP and
re-opening the track for one day only. Interesting concept. Del Mar is a
really gorgeous place to watch 'em run, the crowds show up in adundance and
the weather is usually nothing less than perfect.

Arlington's Turf Festival this year was very close to being a Turf Breeder's
Cup, especially for the dames, who don't have a designated BC turf race.
Consider that almost all N. American Grade Ones for the turf fillies are out
on the west coast - I think Arlington did quite well in that respect to bring
out some of the best in the world for the Beverly D.

Yes, Saratoga would be a great venue, but not in November. Cold weather,
no vacation crowds, etc. Belmont and Aqueduct, however, are not to be
crossed off the list. Weather plays a small role with them, but not enough
to write them off. Both have been hosts, and I believe Belmont is up for an
upcoming BC already (1995??). Arlington is a great place. Is early November
weather that bad out there??

What about churchill downs 2 years ago...talk about cold!! John Veitch and
Tom hammond almost froze thier buts off that year. And I think the weather
makes it more of a fair game when it comes to the European invaders. Most of
the horses that come from europe have thier winter coats on already.Look what
happens when we hold it in places such as gulfstream park. They die of heat!!
I just think the europeans really get to show what kind of horses they are
when its a bit cold.

Doesn't anyone remember the fateful Breeder's Cup at Belmont when Go For Wand
broke down? Belmont hosted the Breeder's Cup in 1990, and it was a great
venue in that the grandstand is huge. Unfortunately, the track condition
came under serious scrutiny when there were three separate mishaps resulting
in a number of horses being put down.
Saratoga is the most beautiful race track in America, epitomizing the history
and beauty of horse racing. If everyone could have the opportunity to spend
an August afternoon there, there would be no need for the hype of the
Breeder's Cup. After all, as was said in a full page add for the BC in the
DRF a few years ago, "IT'S MORE THAN THE DAY." That concept is something
that tv will never convey.

The Breeder's Cup' selection of the tracks has gotten boring and needs new
tracks on it's list. Worthy of consideration are: Woodbine, Arlington and
the Meadowlands.
Sure the 1st 2 tracks maybe at the mercy of the weather, but why haven't the
committee given consideration to a night-time Breeder's Cup at the
Meadowlands?
Can you imagine the ratings for NBC, if the CUP was held in Metro NY at
night.
The weather in mid-October is usually pleasant, plus the media capital of the
world would really infuse extra press.
The CEO of the NJ Sports Authority, Bob Mulcahy has in the past pitched to
the BC selection committee the idea of a "Evening with the Stars", only to
come away empty handed.
The BC committee can and should try to hit a home run, now that the CUP has
become firmly entrenched on the annual racing calendar.

I think a night BC might work, but keep in mind that the Meadowlands only
really holds 30-35,000 people. (That's what they get for a good
Hambletonian.) BC's usually attract 50-70,000 fans. Hollywood Park has
night racing, and Del Mar (BC host in 1997) may also. I say this even though
i'm biased ( live in NYC).

As the producer/director of all ten Breeders' Cups for NBC, I am the first
who would love the exposure and "big time feel" of a Breeders' Cup in prime
time. But I'm sure my bosses on the fifteenth floor at 30 Rock would make the
point that the event falls smack dab into the weeks when they're trying to
build a new schedule. Our first year we got a 5.5 rating, and it's
unfortunately gone downhill since then. Even a 5.5 in prime time would be
disastrous, among the least viewed shows of the week. To interrupt the new
schedule it would have to be a ratings bonanza...like a World Series or NBA
Final.
I repeat though, I'm with you guys. I'd love to see it....but I won't be
holding my breath.

The Breeder's Cup draws such low ratings because it is NOT shown on
primetime,
when all horseplayers across North America are at the track on Saturday
afternoon
and NOT home.
If Neilson ratings could be incorporated with the tremendous national
(not to mention world-wide) attendance at the racetracks/ITW,
maybe just then it would properly reflect the interest in racing on
television.
Maybe sometime in the next decade with the advent of home telephone betting,
the idea of a night-time Breeder's Cup telecast can become a reality.
I know I would plan a special party in my own living room ala Super Bowl
Sunday.
Can you imagine this potential bonanza.
How NBC can fathom the idea that a Special event, like the CUP in primetime
would be lot worse than a Danielle Steele movie, is beyond me.
It is a shame that the Breeder's Cup selection committee is held hostage in
this manner.

One of the stated purposes of the original founders (Gaines, Van Cleef, et
al) of the Breeders' Cup was to bring new fans to the sport, and thus they
determined that exposure on a major network was necessary. ESPN and other
cable outlets of course were possibilities, and would certainly put the BC on
in prime time, but the certainty was that only the aficionados would find it.
Whether this philosophy is right or wrong can be debated forever, but the
resulting fact is that it will be very tough to ever get a night of major
network exposure in early November for any special event....even the Derby,
should it be held at night, probably wouldn't cause a network programmer to
interrupt his schemes of building a schedule.
An additional problem: I had problems squeezing the first seven Breeders Cups
into four hours, with the demand from horse fans and the Breeders' Cup that
all races be seen live. I petitioned for, and got, an additional half hour,
and for the past three years the network has dedicated four and a half hours
for our "Super Bowl" of horse racing. Prime time is only three hours long.
Which three races do you not show live? Yes, you could run the races every 18
minutes like some tracks do, but that would not do a service to the quality
of racing the BC has.
Additionally, it's no easy task to get 230+ stations across the country to
clear an entire afternoon for a show. They'd rather be showing lucrative
movies, and NBC's execs do a fabulous service to the horse racing crowd by
demanding that the stations do carry the show.
A lively debate......to be continued I'm sure.

Not to beat a dead horse....whoops, wrong cliche for this board....
Anyway, an additional problem for everyone to mull over is the definition of
prime time in a country that has four time zones. Let's say a network did
dedicate an evening - 8 to 11 on a slow Friday night, for argument's sake -
to the Breeders' Cup, live from the Meadowlands, under the lights. Would a
huge west coast audience be there from five to eight? Probably not - they're
all stuck in traffic at that time.
Or would you delay it to the West Coast? No way...there goes the excitement,
and the betting interest. Racing's gotta be live!
So, all things considered, the 4 1/2 hours on Saturday afternoon, live to the
entire nation, looks pretty good. Let's just pray for a bright, sunny day
next November so we can see the Classic - not like in '88.

I'm very disappointed to see that MD tracks are not being considered by any
of the fans on the list of possible locations for Breeder's Cup! OK, so MD
might not have the best racing in the world, but we're certainly "good
enough" for things like the Pimlico Special, the Preakness, the Washington DC
International.... Why not Breeder's Cup? The weather is still pleasant in
MD - around mid 60's usually; sometimes warmer. Our facilities are quite
capable of handling a croud - even without an infield. The Sports Place
would be an excellent accomadation for owners, breeders, trainers, and other
"big wigs" of the sport.

I've been to the Preakness 2 years in a row now, and I think Old Hilltop
would be a great place for the BC. I went to the BC last year at Santa
Anita, and granted, it is a beautiful track, but only 50,000 folks showed up.
I stood in line for half an hour just to place a bet! Went to the Preakness
the last two times, and 100,000 people showed up each time, and I never
waited more than 10 minutes, tops! If the Thoroughbred industry really wants
to generate fans AND interest, and prehaps potential new owners (like me),
then why not go where there is really strong support for the sport? Pimlico
may not be the most beautiful track, but it really caters to the horse-racing
enthusiast. I had so much fun the first time, I came back for a second time.
I may not ever go to a BC at Santa Anita.

BREEDERS' CUP MIGHT PRICE ITSELF OUT OF BEST FIELDS
By Bill Christine
Los Angeles Times Oct. 8, 1994
________________________
When Hollywood Park ran the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup in July, a
Breeders' Cup official looked at the five-horse field and said: "What is
this, Supplementary City?"
He was referring to Slew of Damascus, the winner of the race, and The
Wicked North, the 3-5 shot who finished fourth. Neither had been nominated to
the Breeders' Cup, that $10 million day of racing at Churchill Downs on
November 5th, but this year, Slew of Damascus and The Wicked North are only
the tip of the iceberg.
In almost every division, the specter of ineligible horses hangs heavy
over the Breeders' Cup, which after ten years of dodging bullets, will run
its races with some of the best horses left in their barns.
Let's start with Holy Bull, the probably Horse of the Year and work down
from there. Unless their owners pay supplementary fees that range from
$120,000 to $360,000, Best Pal, Paseana, Pistols and Roses, Cherokee Run and
Montreal Red won't be at Churchill Downs either. Best Pal has earned $5
million, more than anyone except John Henry and Alysheba. Paseana is the
winner of the 1992 Breeders' Cup Distaff and a double Eclipse winner;
Cherokee Run is one of the favorites of the Breeders' Cup Sprint; and if
Montreal Red wins today's Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, he will become
the future book favorite for next year's Kentucky Derby.
The owners of some of these horses might reach for their checkbooks, but
John Mabee, who races Best Pal, will not be among them.
"The Cal Cup wants Best Pal, and that's where we are going to run him,"
Mabee said. "If the supplementary fee to make Best Pal eligible for the
$3-million Classic wasn't so excessive, we might have gone there. But that is
way too much to pay for a 6-year-old."
The Mabees have been paying and paying since Best Pal was a
two-year-old, because the resilient gelding wasn't made lifetime eligible for
the Breeders' Cup with a $500 payment the year he was foaled. In 1990, after
buying into the Breeders' Cup for $120,000, Best Pal's owners got back
$10,000 when their horse ran sixth in the Juvenile. Last year, when the
Breeders' Cup Classic was run at Santa Anita, the Mabees supplemented Best
Pal for $360,000. He finished tenth and earned nothing.

Paying these supplementary fees has been ironic becasue John Mabee, the
chairman of Del Mar, was one of the founding directors of the Breeders' Cup
and helped draft the rules.
"I've stood up for the high supplementary feses in the past," he said
on Friday, "but I think it's time that this be reviewed. Even if they review
it, they still might not make a change, but at least they should look at it.
Maybe they ought to consider something like 6% instead of what they are now."
Since the Breeders' Cup inception, the rules have allowed a horse to be
supplemented for 12% of the total purse of the race, providing that the
horse's sire was nominated to the Breeders' Cup program. If neither horse nor
sire has been nominated, the supplementary is 20% of the purse.
Sidney and Jenny Craig, who have twice paid $200,000 for Paseana to run
in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, asked Ted Bassett, president of the Breeders'
Cup, to review the supplementary rule.
"Bassett said that the board did not want to make a change," said
McAnally, who trains Paseana. "Why should they? They won't change the rule as
long as people keep paying the money."
Besides Best Pal and Paseana, other standouts supplemented into the
Breeders' Cup have included Bertrando, Bayakoa, Estrapade, Pebbles, Tasso,
Vanlandingham and Spend A Buck. Wild Again wouldn't have won the first
Breeders' Cup Classic if his owners haven't paid the supplemental fee of
$360,000 to see their 31-1 longshot run.
If for no other reason than Holy Bull, the Breeders' Cup directors need
to overhaul their tough-as-nails supplemental policy. Perhaps a one-time
supplemental payment ought to count for a horse's lifetime.
Holy Bull wasn't nominated to the Breeder's Cup because his
owner-tariner, Jimmy Croll, made a mistake. Croll thought he paid the $500
fee for the grey colt, but a year later he opened his drawer and saw that he
nominated the wrong horse. Now Croll believes he is holding a pat hand, one
that doesn't need to be improved by a $360,000 gamble in the Breeders' Cup.
He says that Holy Bull has done enough to be voted horse of the year, and not
many in the game see any holes in his logic.
In other words, the Breeders' Cup needs Holy Bull more than Holy Bull
needs the Breeders' Cup. If this isn't enough to get the winds of change
stirring, nothing will.

In the article posted by Joie, there is a glaring error.
Jimmy Croll did not make the mistake of not nominating Holy Bull.
As a matter of fact, Croll did not even own The Bull until his long-time
owner/friend died
the day The Bull broke his maiden in his 2yo debut at Monmouth Park in 1993.
The Bull was part of a group of horses that was willed to Mr. Croll.
Seems to me LA Times Bill Christine erred big here,
in an effort to lend credence to the rest of the article.

I believe the focus on T Cat was precisely because of the name of the show -
the Breeders' Cup Preview. The Breeders' Cup's best interests would have been
served by a Lukas win, and the possibility of a Horse of the Year climax to
the day on Nov. 5th.
A lot of other horses were developed in the narrow confines of the ninety
minute show, especially the 2-year olds. We got not only a great preview of
the B.C., but of next year's 3-year old classics.
Unfortunately, Julie Krone's mount's scratching didn't help. A major feature
had been prepared on her, but that's good old Murphy's Law.
Once it was time for riders' up, the antics of T Cat in the ring were the
story....ignore them, and every horse fan would have been cheated.
Bottom line is that on the Preview show, as well as on the Breeders' Cup,
there's only about thirty minutes per race. The Derby is fortunate to have
ninety minutes to develop a dozen or so horses.

From: Joie A9426

HORSE RACING/Bill Christine
Los Angeles Times, Oct. 20, 1994
---------------------------
BREEDER'S CUP WILL GET A BOOST FROM SOVIET PROBLEM
Soviet Problem, a 4-year-old fily who has run poorly only once in her 17-race
career, will be shipped from Maryland to Kentucky on Sunday, and her owners,
John Harris and Don Valpredo, are expected to make a preliminary payment
Monday that will keep her eligible for the $1 million Breeder's Cup Sprint at
Churchill Downs.
Because Soviet Problem wasn't nominated for $500 three years ago,
Harris and Valpredo must supplement her into the race for $120,000. The first
payment of $40,000 is due Monday, with the balance to be paid November 2nd,
when entries are drawn.
First place in the Sprint is worth $520,000.
"It won't be a good financial decision to run," Valopredo said, "We'll
be putting up more than 20% of what we're running for. But John and I have
always been strong about making contributions to racing, and since the
Breeder's CUp was designed to bring the best of the best together, we feel
that our filly ought to be there."
The addition of Soviet Problem comes at the best time for the beleagured
Breeder's Cup program. This year's races will be run without several
prominent horses, including Holy Bull, the favorite for Horse-Of-The-Year
honors.
Soviet Problem, extending her record to four consecutive victories over
male competition, raced outside California for the first time last Saturday
and won the $200,000 Laurel Dash, a six-furlong grass race in Maryland.
Soviet Problem has 14 victories and two seconds in 17 tries. At six furlongs
on dirt, which are the conditions of the Breeder's Cup Sprint, her record is
eight victories and one second in nine tries.
"We think she can compete effectively in the Sprint," Valpredo said.
"She's now won seven in a row, and there's not a North American Sprinter
who's done that. And she's beaten boys on both the grass and dirt."
Chris McCarron, who is four-for-four aboard Soviet Problem, rode the
filly at Laurel.
"She must have lost a length and a half at the start," McCarron said.
"She gets real tense in the gate, like a lot of the real fast sprinters do,
and she kicked six or seven times while she was waiting. When the doors
opened, her right hind leg was off the ground."
For the third time in her career, Soviet Problem came from off the pace
to win. She beat another California filly, Cool Air, by 1-1/4 lengths.
In May at Golden Gate Fields, trianer Bob Baffert tried to beat Soviet
Problem with three of his top sprinters in the $150,000 Oakland Handicap.
Soviet Problem fought them off the win by a length.
"She's the real thing," said Baffert, who won the Breeder's Cup Sprint
with Thirty Slews in 1992.
McCarron has pointed out that fillies have done well in the Sprint. Very
Subtle won the race in 1987, Safely Kept won in 1990, the year after she lost
the stake by a neck; and a pair of necks prevented Meafara from winnning in
1992 and 1993.
As a 3-year-old in 1993, Soviet Problem won her first five starts by a
combined 34 lengths before her only off-the-board finish, a seventh in the
Railbird Stakes at Holywood Park in May.
She suffered a tendon injury during that race, and trainer Greg
Gilchrist wasn't able to bring her back to the races until last February.
Soviet Problem was bred by Valpredo and Harris, who stands her sire,
Moscow Ballet (Nijinsky II - Millicent by Cornish Prince). Soviet Problems'
dam, Niopro Blama is by Dimaggio, whom Don Valpredo's father, John, named
after his favorite ball player. Dimaggio, winner of the Hollywood Juvenile in
1974, was 22 when he died in February.
"I think supplementing Soviet Problem is worth their while, "said
McCarron, "She's so quick that she feels like a rubber band that's been
pulled back as far as you can pull it."
end.

HORSE RACING/Oak Tree at Santa Anita
Los Angeles Times, 10/22/94
by Bob Mieszerski
----------------------------
LAKEWAY THE FORGOTTEN FILLY IN BC DISTAFF
When it comes to the Breeder's Cup Distaff, Lakeway is the forgotten filly.
All of the attention recently has focused on Sky Beauty, the Shug
McGaughy-trained duo of Heavenly Prize and Dispute, and defending champion
Hollywood Wildcat.
Three months ago, Lakeway was all the rage, and deservedly so. The
3-year-old daughter of Seattle Slew won Grade 1 stakes at Santa Anita,
Hollywood Park and Belmont Park and would have won another one at Churchill
Downs (the Kentucky Oaks) had not Kent Desormeaux not been outridden by Eddie
Delahoussaye.
Then came the stumble at Saratoga. Heavily favored against six others in
the Alabama, Lakeway offered no resistance when challenged by Heavenly Prize
and finished second, beaten by seven lengths.
"We shipped in there just before the race and she looke great and acted
great and everything," trainer Gary Jones said. "But then she jst ran
terrible. We scoped her and found all kinds of pus and mucous in her throat.
She's had troubles with allergies and they all kicked up on her at once.
Going from Hollywood Park to Saratoga was a totally different enviroment.
"We hurried to get her back home and she was very sick when she got
back. It developed into pneumonia."
But Jones said Lakeway rebounded from the illness quickly, and on Friday
moorning at Hollywood Park she worked seven furlongs in 1:24-2/5 under
Desormeaux. Jones said she galloped out the mile easily in 1:37-3/5.

The rule to couple entries often is put into effect if a trainer and/or
owner has two entries in the race, depending on the local jurisdiction. It
is my understanding that at Churchill Downs they do not use entries if the
race is for $100, 000 or over. This means all 7 BC races. Hence there will
NOT be entries in these races.

Classic, Turf, Distaff, Sprint and Mile??? Also I'm still waiting for
someone to answer my nagging question...what happened to Toussaud and Western
Approach???

p.s. that's too bad about Col.Affair, certainly had a shot.

Yep Brian, both are out and the field for the BC is getting weaker. Best Pal
and Betrando are being supplemented, but both would have to be nostalgic
picks in my book. Looks like Devil His Due will be tough. You liked Flag

The entries listed in the previous posting include some double entries
(Paradise Creek will undoubtedly scratch from the MILE, i.e.). This means
there will be openings for others to come in from the A.E. list. I did not
list A.E. horses, but there will be changes to this list.
Some multiple TRAINER entries will be coupled, some won't. My previous
note that they could uncouple entries in KY for the BC was wrong in the sense
that if there is common OWNERSHIP, they WILL be coupled. This means that
bettors will have to take both Heavenly Prize and Dispute as a coupling
afterall, thus lowering those odds considerably. In the case of the the slew
of Lucas juvenile fillies, some will be coupled, some won't. In this case
Serena's Song and Flanders will NOT be coupled.

There is a wonderful, touching tale by William Nack in the Oct. 24 issue of
Sports Illustrated. It is an article originally printed in SI in 1990
shortly after Big Red's death in October 1989. Mr. Nack was Secretariat's
official biographer and the best turf writer I have ever read...although I am
a bit biased as he loved the horse the way I still do.
But, be ready to cry when you read it.

In the meantime you MIGHT want to check out Keyword: NEWSHOUND as you could

Meritocrat had Smith but lost him to Cherokee Run. McCarron stayed with

Breeders Cup Handicapping Contest
Rules:
1. Each entrant is given an imaginary TOTAL of TWO THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($2000) to invest in the SEVEN B.C. races. NO REFUNDS, SO SPEND THE
FULL $2000 or it disappears into cyberspace.
2. Bets may be Win, Place, Show, or Exacta (NO TRIPLES PLEASE!!!)
or combinations thereof.
3. You MUST bet a Minimum of $200 in each of the SEVEN races.
The remaining $600 may be bet in multiples of $200 in any of the races you
wish. This means you could bet $200 in six races, and $800 in the Turf, for
example. Or $200 in four races, and $400 in the other three, as another
example. You will not be able to bet more than $800 in one race, nor may you
bet less than $200 in any race. If your total is more than $2000, your bet
will be invalid. Please make sure you understand the rules.
4. Those wishing to ingratiate themselves with the judge (that's
me) will not spread around too many small bets in each race, will you. If
your entry starts to run into several pages, or you're covering a show bet on
every horse in the race, remember that my Autotote is only human.
5. If you bet only $200 in the race, no bets less than $20 will
be allowed. On those races where you place some or all of the additional
$600, you must bet in $50 multiples. (A $20 three horse exacta box costs
$120; a 3 horse fifty dollar box is $300, a four horse $50 box is $600- if
that helps.) REMEMBER-A four horse $20 box would not be allowed, as it would
cost $240. Once over $200, you must bet $50 minimum!
6. Your imaginary wager must be e-mailed to me (Exacta Ed) no
later than Saturday, November 5th, at 12 NOON Eastern . Please list NAMES of
the horses, NOT numbers.
7. You may also post your entries on the BB if you wish, but for
it to count I must receive the official one in the e-mail.
8. I will post my entry to make it official.
9. I will post the results of all entries sometime following the
race. Official Kentucky track results will be used. I may need a little
more time in this one.
Good luck to all,
Ed

Now, in anticipation of the same for the Breeder's Cup issue, I started

"She has a tendency to come off her inside lead a little bit early, maybe two

say at the most one jump, and then she accelerated. I chirped at her at the
eighth pole and she was very responsive." Trainer D.W.Lucus said Flanders
left her company far behind. "The plan was for her to go off the five-eighths
and pick up the company at the half, and give her some company to the quarter
pole. She shot by so fast that I thought the company had gotten confused, but
she just went by and left the others nine or ten lengths behind. She got a

I'm posting this message from the Derby list written by a meterologist who

-------------------------------------
BC forecast update (Thur.).
There still appears to be a chance that the BC could
dodge a bullet concerning the rain. The various models, both
short and long range, are inconsistent in how they handle this
snowstorm as it comes out of the Rockies. This would be the
rain producer for Kentucky. A couple of the models are hinting
that the system would move slightly slower than predicted the
last few days. So a possible scenario could be very warm and humid
on Saturday with strong southerly winds, probably with cumulus clouds
and a chance of a thunderstorm through the earlier part of the day.
The main body of precipitation might not get to Louisville until
later in the afternoon or maybe (a big maybe) not until the evening.
Some of the models are also predicting a chance of rain both today
and Friday for Louisville, but this would be more of a passing
shower.
It is at this point, too close to call.

Now that was a full indepth weather coverage, don't you think.(LOL). Non
horseman would think we were nuts. Why don't we try the Chinese method of
preventing rain. Everyone buy a big red chilli pepper and stick it in your
garden. I heard it works.

Who's Who
Date: 94-11-04 01:46:42 EST
From: NoDancer
Posted on: America Online
For what its worth my views on the European contingent which, by the way, may
be the strongest to come to the BC in several years. I have noted the
Europeans in each race which I feel will be the most prominent.
Sprint -
Lochsong: A nice sprinter in his own right who has probably faced the best
horses of any in the field, but, he may not be inclined to go so far as 6f
and he tends to be a bit precosious before races. Wide open field but I have
my doubts.
Juvenile Fillies -
Belle Genius: Won a Group I in Ireland last out and seems to be improving
with each start. Probably not up to seriously challenging Flanders though.
Distaff -
Truly A Dream: Was thrashed in the Arc and defeated a lackluster field in the
EP Taylor at Woodbine. A huge surprise if she threatened this very talented
field.
Mile -
East of the Moon: Love her! The 2nd foal of the great Miesque and though back
problems have hindered her progress she has both her dam's talent and spirit.
Had excuses in the QEII including never really getting hold of the track. If
healthy a good play.
Distant View: Was the betting favourite in the QEII and never fired but he is
a good one. Beat a very good field in the Sussex at Goodwood in July and may
have needed that last start. If the turf is firm he moves up in the European
contingent's listing.
Ski Paradise: Had excuses in both her last two races and she rarely throws a
bad race. 2nd in last year's Mile despite problems and is a big threat here.
Beat East of the Moon in the Prix du Moulin and has a favourable post
Saturday.
Bigstone: Blew the 1st turn in last years Mile and still raced well. In the
2nd flight of Europeans in this race. Will probably need a super effort to
share against this group.
Barathea: Capable of a big race at times. Also in last years Mile and was
taken out. Hasn't won a Group I this year and will be hard pressed to win
here.
Juvenile -
Eltish: Think he will like the distance and if he handles the dirt course he
could threaten at a good price. Eddery is supposedly fond of this one and
likes his heart. Consider.
Turf -
Hatoof: Has proven in the past he can travel and win. Looks sharp right now
and though I'm not sure 1 1/2m is his best distance I think he has a big shot
here, Post helps too and Swinburn can ride.
Hernando: Don't think he's the horse he was at 3 but he did race very well in
the Arc and he has been lightly raced this year. Might be finding his best
stride now and can't be overlooked but post no help.
White Muzzle: Has faced some very good ones over the past couple of years
including Kings Theatre and Opera House. Capable if he's right but he ran
badly last time out in the Rothman's Int. ?????
Raintrap: A shocker when he won he Rothman's but overall he looks a cut below
this competition. Would really surprise me if he won this race.
Celtic Arms: Was the betting favourite against Arc winner Carnegie in the
Prix Niel and didn't show much. Followed that race with another dull one in
the Arc. May be tailing off form wise.
Classic -
Flag Down: Has been in the US awhile now and think he's primed for a big
race. I don't see anyone overpowering in the Classic this year and he's got a
decent shot.
Dernier Empereur: His win in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket perhaps made
him a legitimate conyender here. Has always raced well but ususally not
against the best. Not impossible though I'm still doubtful.
Millkom: Gets Asmussen and though he lost badly in the Arc last out that race
did break a 10 race winning streak. Has been facing a little better recently
but most of his wins came against much softer competition than this.
Ezzoud: Coupled with Grand Lodge in the mutuel field and either of these
horses could win this race. Worth a few dollars just based on the company
they have been keeping. Ezzoud in particular just beat Muhtarram and King's
Theatre in the Juddmonte at York. Longshot worth considering.

Trivia that kind of surprised me but Keeneland is the oldest track in the

WGallant 1,
Breeders has been held at Belmont before and will be again next year!
That is another reason thatbyou won't see it at the Spa, because NYRA has
the Belmont meet running in Ocober/November

I can't make the 10 am chat, will be on the road to the OTB, but here is an
analysis of the Europeans from the internet from England....from the horse's
moth you might say! My morning contributin for those looking across the water
for good odds....as I am.
-----------------Begin message
I think that this year will be a good one for the Euro contingent now that
we've returned to the more temperate north. Last time the BC was held at
Churchill Down, the Euro-raiders came away with three winners, this year it
could be as high as four.
For what their worth here are my own views on the Euro Challenge.
Sprint: Lochsong.
My heart tells me she will win, and my head tells me she might win. The
spin she had on Thursday demonstrated he well being. I think she'll lead
soon after the gates, I don't think she'll let Soviet Problem take it up.
As her trainer says "If anything try's to lie up with her then they're
going too fast". That last furlong is going to seem an awful long way.
2yo Fillies: Belle Genius.
She caused a 20/1 upset when winning her Grade 1 race in Ireland, it
would be nice if she could squeeze into the first 3.
Distaff:
Safe in the hands of the locals.
Mile:
The Euro milers have been busy beating each other although they look
a decent bunch, and the outcome will very much turn on the weather. If
the rains stay away then I'll take Distant View to fulfill the promise of
the Sussex Stakes. On easier ground then Bigstone, back to his best after
his Prix De La Foret win, will carry my money. Fast ground in required for
Barathea and probably for East Of The Moon, whereas Ski Paradise can go on
either.
Juvenile:
Arazi won by 4L after being eased down, Eltish is some way short of that but
probably so are the American juveniles. Again it would be nice if he could
squeeze into the frame.
Turf:
Hatoof will love any mud, but I wouldn't put my money on her lasting home.
Harnando will hate the mud but would have a good chance on firmer ground.
Only Royals G1 wins have come in Fillies only races, but she'll love a soft
surface, and Tikkenan was not quite G1 grade back home. White Muzzles only
G1 win was in the un-demanding Italian derby (93) although his last run was
too bad to be true, and he's now had some time to acclimatize.
The proximity of Urgent Request throws doubt on Raintraps Woodbine success.
Bolas could run a big race at a big price, having won the Irish Oaks in
July, then disappointed behind Only Royal when a 6/5 favourite at York.
Rested since, there have been encouraging noises of late. Intrepidity has
been somewhat disappointed this year, with Celtic Arms needing a fast
surface to produce his best this is a race best watched.
Classic:
I believe Ezzoud to have a great chance in a year where the best American
has stayed away. He showed last year that he has the early pace to lie close
to the lead. He has only raced once since August in preparation for the
Classic and that was in the Arc which is longer than ideal. He's run well in
many Grade 1 races and two of his three Grade 1 successes have been in his
last two 10f races. On top of his form he should be at most an 8/1 shot.
Coupled with Grand Lodge as the field is a bit of a bonus. This son of
Chief's Crown loves fast ground and it will be interesting to see how he
copes with the dirt. Campaigned mainly over 8f has looked tapped for toe
against the best. His last
three races have been G1 10f affairs where a muddling pace caught his
jockey napping in the first. In his last two races he's been beaten by
heads and necks. If he takes to the dirt will run a good race.

Some almost last minute thoughts :
Sprint- In my own bankroll, this is the key betting race. The Field bet
might be day's bargain. Cherokee or Prenup, can't decide. Want to get out
with a big winner here.
Juv. Fillies- Love Flanders (the best 2 yo of either sex!), but she will win
like the 2 yo Arazi, or....... Maxim:Never bet as a favorite a horse being
asked to do something it's never done-Flanders 2 turns. Stormy Blues is
ready.
Distaff- Don't bet, just enjoy, right. Sentiment says Sky, the best
filly/mare in America. Reason says Heavenly Prize, who's been brought up to
this race perfectly and is probably a better filly at this time. And what do
you do about Neil Drysdale, the best at preparing for the BC? OK Skybashers
& NY bashers, get ready. It's been a long year for you, so warm up, but wait
till the fat lady sings, please and she better be beat by a slew of those
Californians we heard about ; )
Mile- I knew Lure couldn't win two in a row last year, especially from the
outside and with no value. OOOps. May be the mortal lock of day. Shug has
him and HPrize perfect. Last year he aimed for BC Preview Day, this year the
whole enchilada.
Juvenile- It's Timber Country, I mean Sierra Diablo, I mean Evansville, uh,
uh, can you ask me again in a few minutes.
Turf- Why try. Paradise Creek is super. He rested his last race and should
be ready.
Classic- Andre Fabre is going to win a race today, right? The Devil is
due, right? It's European Day in the Classic, right. All in all, I'll pick
the best older horse in America to win, and I hope the IRS doesn't get his
share of the 1.5 million! But I'll be covering that bet in exotics. I got
killed in this race last year with a sentimental bet on Best Pal. Sorry, not
again, even though he's a favorite of mine.
THE BEST TO ALL IN THE CONTEST, BUT ESPECIALLY AT THE TRACK!

WHOA--what a day!!
We had great seats, 3rd Floor Box, Section 321. Great view of some FABULOUS
racing!!!
It started off terrible as I stood in line at 1 PM with 4 Pick 7's in hand.
I waited, waited, waited and finally at 1:20 they closed the wagering and I
WAS STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!! :-( Needless to say--you don't win if you
can't play.
But, I wouldn't have won anyway--too many surprises.
Due to the long wait in line, I was barely able to get out to see the Sprint.
Boy was I glad I made it in time to see--a great photo finish on the 1st
race. I was going to bet on Cherokee Run--but lines were too long--but was
glad to see her win.
On the Juvenile Fillies I had everything on Flanders--so did everyone else!!
She won a well fought race. However, I was horrified when the ambulances
went zipping out and Flanders DID NOT RETURN. Turns out she had a fractured
right front cannon bone and sesamoid. In my opinion this horse is an athlete
with real class (YES FOLKS--this is a SPORT!!). Winning despite the pain.
Let's all pray that she'll recover well from surgery and that her career is
not compromised.
The Distaff was a shocker--One Dreamer won like a true dreamer. Those who
held the winning tickets saw their dreams come true--imagine $96.20. Then,
to watch trainer Tom Proctor--long hair and all--take continual bows all the
way down the track. WHAT FUN :-D
I was again surprised in the Mile as Barathea pulled off a stunning upset.
However, I was excited because he is a Sadler's Wells and we do a lot of
Breeding to him. It is a rare event when a Sadler's Wells wins in the US.
The Juveniles race was wonderful. Though I was betting on Evansville Slew, I
also had great expectations for Timber Country. He ran like a real star.
What's more--he is a Woodman colt and we have some good Woodman stock. One
of our Woodman fillies in Japan won four races earlier this year before
getting an injury. She'll be back later this year. But, I deviate from the
BC here. This was the second win of the day for Overbrook.
The Turf was a race that I looked forward to watching. Intrepidity has
beaten our filly Royal Ballerina a couple times in Europe this year and so I
looked forward to seeing her run. (BTW--Royal Ballerina is scheduled to run
in the Long Island Stakes GII at Aqueduct next weekend). Anyway, I had my
hopes on Hatoof and Paradise Creek. But, Tikkanen made it two for two in
U.S. racing as he literally flew in the finish.
The Classic was really a Classic. I had a lot of Concern about which horse
to pick. Unfortunately, I was not Concerned enough :-(. I did go for the
field to show and won a couple of bucks. But, I truly enjoyed the race.
As I trudged on down to cash my last ticket I dreamed of the Pick 7 I wasn't
able to do--wondering what if? At the cash booth to my immediate right was a
lady who had to have a security guard with her as she tried to cash in her
winning ticket--they closed the register, wrote out a slip and she was
escorted elsewhere with the security guard by her side and a big :-) on her
face--a pick 6 winner? (There weren't any pick 7s)
Well, at least somebody won some money. Nevertheless, I felt like a winner
for just being there on the 3rd Floor to witnes a great spectacle and enjoy a
great day of racing.
Hope you all had a great day. D. Kravetz, Green Gates Farm, Lexington

No sour grapes here...Concern ran a great race, but from a value handicapping
perspective, did you Concern-backers really consider $7.50 to $1 a square
price? Prior to yesterday Concern had never race at CD, never won at 10
furlongs, and in fact was still eligible for NW3OT conditions.
That's a lot of faith...too much for me. Congrats to those of you who
*finally* cashed a win ticket on this horse, hope that you were able to make
up for the previous 17 races out of 20 that this horse did not win.
Great horse ($2.8 million in earnings) for the owners, and a great story for
racing..."if at first you don't succeed..."..."patience comes to those who
wait...".

Yes the BC was a great day of racing. Yes we saw the best horses, trainers,
and jockeys, however, Pat Day who I reguard as one of the nations best riders
seemed to be napping noticably on three mounts. In the Juvenile Fillies he
won on Flanders, barley. He looked to have the race well under controll,
then he was passed in mid-stretch. The filly won on pure guts and
determination, Pat went along for the ride. Paradise Creek, although running
a 1/4 Mile further than usual, should have won. I know Pat doesn't like to
use his horse up early, but mid-stretch and being passed on the outside is
time to get busy and start whippin' and drivin'. Pat, not taking anything
away from Concern who ran a fabulous race, seemed to fall asleep at the
switch once again aboard Tobascco Cat. Pat, it seems, needs to be passed
before he'll earn his money, fine at North Hampton Fair, not on BC
[Pat]Day?

I really hope that Flanders will run again, but I do not think she will
ever be the same. What you saw in that race was not the real Flanders, but a
filly who undoubtedly injured herself during the running and held on to win

Flanders undergoes surgery
Mercury News Wire Services
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Flanders, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies on
Saturday, underwent surgery Sunday at an equine hospital in Lexington.
Flanders had some broken bones repaired in her right foreleg that hopefully
will allow her to continue her racing career. Despite a broken leg, she beat
stablemate Serena's Song at Churchill Downs, giving trainer D. Wayne Lucas
his first Breeders' Cup victory in five years.
Flanders sustained a fractured canon bone, in the shin, as well as a small
fracture of a sesamoid, a small bone in the ankle. The champion 2-year-old
Dehere is in training again after sustaining a similar injury last winter.
``They tell me it's a pretty routine surgery. The veterinarians are very
optimistic,'' Lukas said. He said it usually takes about four months to
return to training after surgery like this.
This was to be her last race of the season, anyway, Lukas said.
Timber Country, who won the Juvenile for Lukas, will be shipped to California
before beginning his 3-year-old campaign, pointed toward the Kentucky Derby
next May, if all goes well.
No Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion has won the Derby.
``I'll live all winter with that jinx,'' Lukas said.
Lukas' only disappointment was Tabasco Cat, who won the Preakness and Belmont
earlier this year. On Saturday, he finished a neck behind Concern in the $3
million Classic, the climactic race on the seven-race Breeders' Cup card.
Lukas sent out eight starters Saturday, and each came home with at least some
money except for Cat Appeal. She was eased up in the Juvenile Fillies,
although uninjured.

One of the things I love about horseplaying is the crisp logic one uses to
explain the outcome after the fact.
Concern: The tendency is to hesitate betting 3yo when racing against older
company. However, there should have been no hesitation in betting concern.
After all, concern ran second by a neck to Holy Bull, who trashed the older
horses. This makes concern better than the crop of older horses. I think many
people underestimated the talent of this three year old group of horses.
Including me.
The horse that won the distaff race was in retrospect an excellent price.
This was a horse who had raced extremely well at churchill downs twice
before, had raced well against Flawlessly, and was the prime speed of the
race. Oh how I love this sport.
I bet on neither.
Did anyone notice what happened to Ezzoud in the classic? The horse was
moving superbly on the inside on the (last turn), and was totally checked, in
fact looked like he banged the rail and went in reverse. Too bad, but that's
why I love Jerry Bailey. He doesn't seem to get himself in those messes.

After it's all said and done I have one question. How do you thank a horse
like Concern or Flanders. How do you thank them for running so hard and
bringing their owners, trainers and fans so much pride and exitment. Do you
break open a bottle of Champagne in place of water or an elegant French meal
to replace their feed. You might even let the colt or filly in the the next
barn spend the night. The bottom line is you just can't thank'em, I guess
you gotta let'em keep running till they just don't want to anymore, isn't
that why the live. To me there Unsung Heroes, they do what they do for little
in return. So heres to you 7 BC winners. I wish I could thank you more, but
like I said I don't know how.

True, he did. But that was one race! He also finished second to Soul of the
Matter, third to Dramatic Gold, and most of the other American contenders. To
say that he would run first today because he was second to HB is a nice
angle, but clearly after the fact. GFG beat HB on the same track, why not bet
him?
Devil ran second to Colonial Affair who didn't run and HB who didn't run in
his last 3, and before that he won 2, so if you ask me he was the horse to
beat using that method!!!!
But then again, I'm just mad I had Concern in second on all my tickets!

Horse Racing, Flanders Surgery
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Flanders, the Juvenile Fillies champion at the
Breeders' Cup, had surgery Monday to mend a fractured bone in her right front
leg.
Dr. R.W. Copelan, who took part in the operation, said it was too soon to say
if Flanders will race again.
Dr. L.R. Bramlage said it was decided to wait until Monday to operate to give
Flanders a rest because ``she's been through a lot.''
Bramlage and Copelan inserted two cortical bone screws across the fracture to
stabilize the portion of the cannon bone Flanders fractured in the race
Saturday at Churchill Downs.
The fracture was accompanied by fragmentation, which required the removal of
several small pieces of bone, according to veterinarians.
On Sunday, a Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital spokesman said the filly had
already had surgery, but the report was premature.
Flanders recovered smoothly and stood unassisted at the hospital. She is
owned by W.T. Young of Lexington.
Flanders won by a head over stablemate Serena's Song in a battle to the wire.
After the race, jockey Pat Day dismounted on the backstretch as soon as he
pulled the filly up.
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said the filly was sound going into the race.

What does it take to win the BC Contest? Let's see what it doesn't take
first. Hitting the Flanders/ Serena's Song exacta for one. You get $11.20
for your bet which may have made you a net loser on the race. Hitting
Flanders to win, or place. Nope. Hitting the exacta in the Sprint. $29.40
doesn't go too far. Evveerybody (almost) had these bets. DreamER on fellow
contestants.
WderekS was astute enough to play One Dreamer to win and place($96.20,
$24) for $50. But wait, there's more. He backed it up with a 3 horse box
(H.P, H.W., & O.D.)for $50 ($340.80). Yes he picked up some spare change in
the Sprint and in the Classic. Our hats off to you WderekS!
PhxFilly was a strong second. No wimp here, she placed $100 to win on
One Dreamer, and got some subway token money in the Classic and Distaff. A
very nice job again Pat!
USA Hero took another route to his third place score. He was all over
Concern -($50 WP) and $50 exacta box (Concern, T.Cat, Soul).
Each of you deserves the awards. Another 40 collected, but not enough to
pay back the original $2000 marker. Hey, it's not easy, and the all or
nothing aspect of a contest makes it even tougher. Thanks to all for
entering, and thanks to all for your kind notes on the entries. You made the
work easier.

Would like to get comments on what people think of the current three-year-old
crop in the wake of a 1-2-3-4 finish in the Classic. Remember too that Holy
Bull was sitting in a stall at Gulfstream Park. From all indications of his
form, three-year-olds would have finished 1-5 in the Classic. Could be the
best crop since 1989, with Easy Goer and Sunday Silence bookending a strong
crop.

I'm back from Kentucky..Soviet Problem is the gutsiest filly I know...next to
Flanders. I predict Flanders will not race again..and here is some
controversy..certain sources say Lukas struck again...she was sore before
race. We'll never know as the man's reputation obscures reality at times by
now. I thank God every day since that race that she lived through it. I had
a seat only 1 box back from the rail at the 16th pole...I saw the look in her
eyes when she would not give up...and I couldn't love a horse more for it.
She is a very sweet tempered filly, too...I was petting her Friday morning
while Tobasco Cat glowered at me from next stall. Soviet Problem answered
her doubters and would have won if the gate wasn't set back 60 feet from 6
furlong pole and stretch at Churchill not so long, but mainly if she ahdn't
had to run with Honor the Hero in 21.2 and 44 and change...21.4 and 45 and
she would have held him off...ask Smith. Lure let me rub his star for a bit
Friday morning while he zoned out, but I didn't bring him luck, did I? It
was a bummer..took me a half hour to recover after the Mile...I don't know if
I could own my own horses an survive the upheaval.

Glad to be back..I missed you guys!
Met a lot of nice people in KY - the horse business is full of them.
I made a point of visiting cetain horses this time because my regret at never
seeing Secretariat at Claiborne still haunts me.
So, I saw Forego and fed him treats (he likes bananas) and his groom gave me
a drawing she had done of him. I saw Seattle Slew - what a star...his groom
said he is "spoiled rotten." The most he did was take a mouthful of hay and
walk over to drop it in his water - he looked healthy as could be!

John loved your idea so much as you know! He brought me over to watch Tom
Hammond tape the opening to the video - Tom is a real pro. I used to work in
TV production with Neumi in Boston. I am ordering my video today -
unfortunately my VCR cut off the Classic so I have to get little Concern's

Vince asked in an e-mail for a comment on Sky. I can't figure why she
decided not to run a lick Saturday. She never gave it a try, and had no
excuse. Maybe she can only run ar Belmont as they say, but such a
difference???? I vowed last year I would not bet a Jerkins horse in the BC
again. I broke the vow with Her & Devil. He seemed to have changed his
style in bringing them up to the BC this year, but... Maybe Alan is jinxed.
I can't figure. I had a feeling that Heavenly Prize might beat her, but not
that way. I still believe that Hollywood Wildcat was vastly overrated THIS
year prior to the race. She was even money at one time in West? Last year I
loved her. This year she was sentimental favorite (see Betrando& Bets Pal).
She and HP ran about the way they should. But Sky?? At least third. I
wish I knew. P.S. There was a story going around in September of her
skipping the BC and resting on her laurels, ala The Bull. She should have,
as it cost her the Eclipse. Ed

There IS a way to thank them, although I don't think they are capable of
connecting the racing to the present. But it is possible to get a florist to
end a "fruit basket only apples." A horse's favorite thing in the world is
food. I firmly believe that if you could hold a conversation in the paddock
before a race with a horse it would go something like this:
How are you today?
I'm fine. I got to eat oats this morning, but then they took away my hay.
Do you think you can win the race today?
I might. If I run really fast. When I go back to my barn I will get my

well when he did something bad...that he would do it and then move over to
the other side of his stall and watch you to see what you would do about it.
They said when he wanted back in his stall, or his "house", he went back in,
no questions asked. He was differnet from the other stallions though. Do
you think we imprint our views fo them on to them or are they objectively
different when they are that special as racehorses and then studs?

Soviet Problem is home in San Francisco at Bay Meadows and going to Japan for

be under constant care and then home to Overbrook Farm to rest in lay-up barn
with 24 hour care. She may or may not race again. I wouldn't count on it.

Timber Country has been turned out for a month at Westerley Stud nar Santa
Barbara...will prep for Triple Crown with 3 or 4 races beginning in Feb. or
so.
Tikkanen is back in France I imagine...only a 3 yr. old who knows?
Concern in wintering in South Carolina, will train on next year at Fair

his distance loving self he could be a handful as a 4 yr. old.
One Dreamer - I haven't got a clue but she is 6 so I hope she is done and

Flanders is the name of a medieval region of what is now a part of Belgium.
Some of the highest order of Northern Renaissance masters (Peter Paul Rubens,
Pieter Bruegel and of course, Jan van Eyck) came from Flanders in the 1400's
and 1500's., and many other artists from Italy and France travelled there to

I may be wrong, but I believe Flanders still exists under the name Vlassen or
Vadlassan or something like that. It WAS a bloody site during WWI, but within
art circles, Flanders is synonomous with lightness, beauty and art. Art
Historians often make reference to the Flemish-Dutch masters, and Flanders
for a time was the crown jewel of the Netherlands.

I figured she was named after the Simpson's neighbors. Maybe I need to shut
off my Simpson screen saver...

Holy Bull in prep at Gulfstream in january, then Donn, then perhaps Big Cap,
but no Strub...but who knows what Croll will do...but go where the weights
are lightest.

Yes I will be delivering the prizes , ala Ed McMahon, as was suggested on a
posting. Since it's tough to deliver to all three, I decided PhxFilly will
get hers in person : ) Hey, Phoenix isn't too far from NY, is it?

Kristy, he didn't deserve to run in the Classic anyway.
I think Charlie W. is getting him ready to hit the track again
because in Wed's racing form I spotted his name in the past
workouts section. He had a bullet workout this past sunday
at 7f.

another note... Flanders was also a famous town for weaving in the middle
ages. It's also the city that started the Hundred Year's War back then.

I think that each horse, like each person, has their own distinct
personality. A special horse, just like a special person, will have a more
energetic personality. Slew is highly intelligent - just ask anybody who's
ever really been around him. Cordero says he's the most intelligent horse he
ever rode. THAT is out of a VERY lot of horses! And they remember too.
I've only ever been with Slew three times, and years and years apart, but
each time he saw me again I got the impresion his reaction was "Oh, hi - it's
you. I know you."

I could see him doing that...he watched me the entire time unlike the other
stallions. He was very special.

LOL at your description of the horse's conversation in the paddock. Once
made a deal with a friend's horse in the paddock - put $2 across the board on
him <yeah, I'm a big bettor> and showed him the ticket and told him "You win
and I'll split it with you." He looked at it very seriously. And he won.
I bought carrots - you know that carrots are horsey currency, right???? ;)
True story though.

One Dreamer has been retired due to a bruise just below her knee that she got
in training. Not sure who she will be bred to.
Nice mare -- I love the Relaunches/In Reality line!

Ed -- You're just tired of the cold weather!! <G> It's nice and warm in the
mid 70's and the the track has live racing or simulcasting every day. This
is when I _love_ Phoenix!

Be ready Pat. My horse has got me as far west as the GW Bridge as I write
this. By the time I get to Phoenix, you'll be waking.......... and I'll
take a fitting.
